Why you should upskill your existing workforce with Apprenticeships

Did you know that as an employer, you can use Apprenticeships to upskill and retrain your existing workforce? You can use Apprenticeships to boost employee motivation by investing in their development and filling the key gaps within your business! OTC’s Training Co-ordinator Joanne Macfarlane had the opportunity to go forward with a Level 3 Business Administrator Apprenticeship alongside her current role.
When speaking with Joanne, she mentioned how her role as Training Co-ordinator is split between customer service skills and admin skills, adding “I thought the Apprenticeship would help develop the admin skills I needed to acquire for the role”.
Joanne manages and runs Commercial Training Courses and Room Hire for customers on the OTC Consultancy arm of the business. This includes First Aid, Forklift Truck, Health and Safety, Electrical Courses and Professional Development Courses.

Joanne explained that although it can sometimes be a struggle juggling completing her Apprenticeship knowledge questions and a full-time job, Joanne knew she would meet her deadline as she had OTC to support her through it, “OTC have supported me through my Apprenticeship by providing me with a very good business administration training assessor, who has been very helpful and pointed me in the right direction as well as Emma providing me with help when needed!”.
Since completing her Level 3 Business Administration Apprenticeship, Joanne has proceeded to begin a Level 4 Marketing Executive Apprenticeship! Apprenticeships can be beneficial for many reasons; Joanne is an amazing example as she was keen to grow her knowledge and progress her skills to better the company.
